After last week's go/no go presentation, we narrow our scope towards this project. Also, we discuss how are we going to do the project compared with last group Men In BIM. The following is our plan:

What scope are we going to focus on?

Our main focus will be on building different shapes of the overall parking structure. Our secondary concern will be to focus on the main structure of the parking garage, this would mainly be the structural columns and any other major structure within the garage.

A couple of above-and-beyond aspects Holder would like us to look at are fixing the ramps of the garage and also editing the material of exterior walls. This would help to make the structure look more presentable.

How are we going to evaluate our project?

We will have industry professionals create a parking garage using our automated process. We do not plan to specify exactly what they should build but instead will allow them to freely create what they’d like, given a set of criteria such as square footage and a lot plan. This will allow for them to come back to us with any suggestions, areas of concern, etc.

We could also use CGT 462 assistant professor, Kereshmeh Afsari, as a valuable asset in evaluating our project as she has experience in this area.

The following companies are architecture/construction companies in Lafayette:

  • Keystone Architecture Inc.

  • KJG Architecture, Engineering & Interior Design

  • Wahl Architecture

  • Arkor Architects & Engineers

Architecture/Construction companies in Indianapolis:

  • Turner Construction

  • Pepper Construction

How does our project differ from the previous group since we are working on a legacy project?

The Men In BIM group had to devote time researching how to best approach the initial problem of how to “speed up the conceptual design of parking structures”, according to their research question. Much of their focus was spent integrating a basic automated process into Revit, having decided on using Dynamo as solution to their problem. Whereas their group laid the foundation for this automated tool, our group is focused on developing this tool into a much more functional and practical utility for real-world industry use. We plan to add the ability to customize the shape of the structure and structural support features, as expected from Holder. Additionally, Holder has outlined secondary features that they would find helpful if we are able to get that far. This will require us to research several topics that the Men In BIM did not. We will be doing some project clean-up from the last group to make sure the final tool is designed cleanly and effectively as well.
